REFLECTION #1: True Move H: Giving

GIVING IS THE

BEST COMMUNICATION

"We make a living by what we get
But, we make a life by what we give."

2. What attracted you to the message?

The first thing that caught my attention was the the intro of the infomercial where the boy was caught stealing by an old woman. The way the old woman embarrass the boy in front of the crowd made me think that this has a big impact with how the story will turn out.

Then the next thing was when the old man came and ask the boy if his mother was sick and that's when I came to realize that the reason of the boy stealing the medicine was because he wanted to help his mother although they don't have money to buy for her medicine.

I also notice that when the old man came to help the boy, the girl behind him, who was his daughter had this expression as if she already knew her father really well and how the situation will turn out.

After giving the boy the medicine and food, the boy looked at the old man for a few seconds and that's when I thought that this story will be very interesting, after all, no one has any idea what will happen next after the boy ran taking the medicine and the food with him.

The first part of the infomercial showed that even though you're not a well-off person, as long as you can offer someone a helping hand, that's the best thing. The main idea of the infomercial was all about giving despite of having less and it left a huge impact on the spectators because seeing someone who has barely anything, offer help to someone who was helpless was so rare nowadays, many people have been very greedy with what they have, even though they have more than enough, they are afraid to share for they don't want their possessions to be in the hands of someone else but them.

3. How do you react to the message?

Seeing that the old man didn't change after 30 years have past -- Still helping the less fortunate, I was touched and hopeful at the same time asking myself if a person like him still exist in actual life. That even though the world seems to be unfair, there are still people like him who are willing to give despite of having less.

When the old man had a heart attack, that's when I get emotional, I thought to myself that "Out of all the people, why him?", I feel really bad for the old man and the daughter as well, the hospital bill was too high that she doesn't have any choice but to sell their store and do extra work just to have sufficient money for the payment.

Seeing the daughter crying almost everyday, thinking of her father and how he will be able to survive if she can't even pay the expensive hospital bills makes me really sad, seeing the desperation in her eyes and the sadness knowing the fact her father's life is in danger right now and if she can't afford the operation, her father's life might come to an end.

Everything seems so hopeless but then, all of sudden, I was surprised that all the expenses in the hospital were already paid, it took me so long to realize that the reason why the daughter won't have to pay the bills because of the doctor and it really amazed me that the one who paid for their expenses was the doctor, who was also the boy that the old man helped 30 years ago, the good deed done by old man was never forgotten by the child he used to help way back when this child was just stealing just for his mother's medicine.

I was never disappointed with this infomercial, for it has touched my whole heart. Seeing that the boy who used to steal just for his mother's medicine turned out to be a great doctor who has never forgotten who helped him achieve what he is right now. I'm so happy to know that someone like the doct

4. What lifestyles are presented in the message?

It was actually obvious that the lifestyle of both characters where less fortunate with the boy having barely anything with life compared to the old man who somehow has his own business.

Aside from their status in life, it was also explicitly showed that the old man and his daughter likes to help the less fortunate or the beggars on the street, its how they show their love towards other people.

Lastly, when the boy has reached his dream in life and became a doctor, he decided to offer service to the less fortunate people for free, he has his own charity where he can help a lot of people without even asking something in return.

5. What values are being promoted in the message?

We make a living by what we get but we make a life by what we give. This is the best quote to describe the message of the infomercial,  it's not something about what we get but something that we give to a person. Even though we feel like we have less and couldn't afford to give something, just think of the kids who couldn't eat three times a day, who have to work  just to support the family and who have already forgotten their own rights at a young age.

Let's not think of  how much or how many we can offer but as long as we can give and help someone, that is enough to give someone a hope to live.
