REFLECTION #2 : Most Important Media Device
1. What is the most important media device for today’s generation?
Laptop is the most important media device for today's generation in my own opinion.
2. What are the good and bad effects of your chosen media device?
1. Portability
Good effects
Laptops are easy to bring, it is small enough to fit inside the bag and it has all the important hardware in a desktop computer -- monitor, keyboard, mouse, speaker, webcam. It can also be used in a comfortable position, aside from that it has ports where you can connect flash drives and other computer peripherals.
Bad effects
Portability of a laptop can also have side effects, it can easily be stolen also, it can have a bad effect on the health of the user. It may lead to infertility for men or skin cancer. Aside from that it is also a must to keep in mind the proper body posture in using laptop.
2. Power
Good effects
Laptops portability means that it can also be used without charging it continuously also laptops are designed to handle power-hungry programs so as not to easily reduce the battery life.
Bad effects
Charging laptop overtime can cause accidents, so its advisable to keep the time and frequently check if the laptop is already fully charged.
3. Flexibility
Where laptops have a distinct advantage over tablets is in their flexibility. In terms of external peripherals, from printers to external hard drives, anything that connects to a desktop computer can also connect to a laptop. There's also the keyboard and optional mouse input methods, making it much easier to type for extended periods on a laptop than it is on a tablet. Laptops are typically much faster than tablets, which run only basic operating systems.
4. Heat
Good effects
Laptops can automatically lessen the use of apps that slows down the computer and lessen the temperature of it. If the temperature becomes higher, it can be paired with a cooling pad or usb fan.
Bad effects
Unlike desktop computers, its easy for laptop temperature to go up especially if it has high-end graphics, and as its temperature gets higher the larger the risk of health effects especially on skin.
REFLECTION #1: True Move H: Giving

2. What attracted you to the message?
The first thing that caught my attention was the the intro of the infomercial where the boy was caught stealing by an old woman. The way the old woman embarrass the boy in front of the crowd made me think that this has a big impact with how the story will turn out.
Then the next thing was when the old man came and ask the boy if his mother was sick and that's when I came to realize that the reason of the boy stealing the medicine was because he wanted to help his mother although they don't have money to buy for her medicine.
I also notice that when the old man came to help the boy, the girl behind him, who was his daughter had this expression as if she already knew her father really well and how the situation will turn out.
After giving the boy the medicine and food, the boy looked at the old man for a few seconds and that's when I thought that this story will be very interesting, after all, no one has any idea what will happen next after the boy ran taking the medicine and the food with him.
The first part of the infomercial showed that even though you're not a well-off person, as long as you can offer someone a helping hand, that's the best thing. The main idea of the infomercial was all about giving despite of having less and it left a huge impact on the spectators because seeing someone who has barely anything, offer help to someone who was helpless was so rare nowadays, many people have been very greedy with what they have, even though they have more than enough, they are afraid to share for they don't want their possessions to be in the hands of someone else but them.
----------------------------------------------------
3. How do you react to the message?
Seeing that the old man didn't change after 30 years have past -- Still helping the less fortunate, I was touched and hopeful at the same time asking myself if a person like him still exist in actual life. That even though the world seems to be unfair, there are still people like him who are willing to give despite of having less.
When the old man had a heart attack, that's when I get emotional, I thought to myself that "Out of all the people, why him?", I feel really bad for the old man and the daughter as well, the hospital bill was too high that she doesn't have any choice but to sell their store and do extra work just to have sufficient money for the payment.
Seeing the daughter crying almost everyday, thinking of her father and how he will be able to survive if she can't even pay the expensive hospital bills makes me really sad, seeing the desperation in her eyes and the sadness knowing the fact her father's life is in danger right now and if she can't afford the operation, her father's life might come to an end.
Everything seems so hopeless but then, all of sudden, I was surprised that all the expenses in the hospital were already paid, it took me so long to realize that the reason why the daughter won't have to pay the bills because of the doctor and it really amazed me that the one who paid for their expenses was the doctor, who was also the boy that the old man helped 30 years ago, the good deed done by old man was never forgotten by the child he used to help way back when this child was just stealing just for his mother's medicine.
I was never disappointed with this infomercial, for it has touched my whole heart. Seeing that the boy who used to steal just for his mother's medicine turned out to be a great doctor who has never forgotten who helped him achieve what he is right now. I'm so happy to know that someone like the doct
4. What lifestyles are presented in the message?
It was actually obvious that the lifestyle of both characters where less fortunate with the boy having barely anything with life compared to the old man who somehow has his own business.
Aside from their status in life, it was also explicitly showed that the old man and his daughter likes to help the less fortunate or the beggars on the street, its how they show their love towards other people.
Lastly, when the boy has reached his dream in life and became a doctor, he decided to offer service to the less fortunate people for free, he has his own charity where he can help a lot of people without even asking something in return.
----------------------------------------------------
5. What values are being promoted in the message?
We make a living by what we get but we make a life by what we give. This is the best quote to describe the message of the infomercial, it's not something about what we get but something that we give to a person. Even though we feel like we have less and couldn't afford to give something, just think of the kids who couldn't eat three times a day, who have to work just to support the family and who have already forgotten their own rights at a young age.
Let's not think of how much or how many we can offer but as long as we can give and help someone, that is enough to give someone a hope to live.
REFLECTION : Smart Communications, Inc. Infomercial
BREAK DOWN BARRIERS

Smart Communications, Inc. Is a wholly owned mobile phone and internet service incorporation that has the slogan "Welcome Change."
----------------------------------------------------
2. What attracted you to the message?
The first thing that I notice with the infomercial is when the guy was hesitating to accept the friend request of this certain man who turns out to be his father.
Then the next thing that I noticed was when the photo of the him with a guy, who was in fact his boyfriend showed up as he scrolled through his profile.
These photos (above) only mean that the guy was in a relationship with another person who has the same gender as him. And the fact that he was a homosexual made him hesitant to accept the friend request of his father because his father might not accept him for the way he turned out to be.
This is when the infomercial gets interesting because after he accepted the friend request of his father, the spectators are now waiting for the reaction of the father with regards to his son being a homosexual.
The message of the father to his son was the reason why this infomercial was able to catch the attention of the viewers. Homosexuality has been a debatable topic in our society for so long. In a typical Filipino family rooted deeply in Catholic doctrine, the patriarchal side usually condemn this issue but in this infomercial, the message was so clean and simple. Acceptance versus tolerance.
----------------------------------------------------
3. How do you react to the message?
After seeing the photos of the guy with his boyfriend on his Facebook profile, I came to a sudden realization that the guy he's with on the first part (photo above) was the same with the guy on his Facebook -- his boyfriend. That was my first reaction.
I was relieved to know that despite of being a telecommunication company, Smart was able to make their infomercial socially relevant and raise awareness among the people especially the youth who are the main target of the social media.
Coming from a family experiencing the same situation, I was quite envious that the father was able to fully accept his son. Unlike in my family, there was a huge wall between my father and my brother because there was no acceptance on my father's side and that made my brother's relationship with him quite fragile.
----------------------------------------------------
4. What lifestyles are presented in the message?
Looking at the family lifestyle, it seems that the guy came from a wealthy family and he is also a family-oriented type of person, seeing that even though that all of them have their own lives and families, they were still able to allot enough time for Sunday family gathering, having lunch together and talking to each other.
It was also implicitly stated the father was a former military officer. We can infer from this that the father's attitude, lifestyle and perspective in life are still deeply rooted in stoic and often forceful soldier discipline.
----------------------------------------------------
5. What values are being promoted in the message?
Acceptance versus tolerance. Acceptance because the father disregard the machismo issue. He openly embraced his son's sexual preference despite society's beliefs that a man is for a woman. He accepted his son out of love that he will not judge their lifestyle and practices.
Tolerance because our society just simply tolerate LGBT, we don't accept them totally, we condemn gay marriage, there's discrimination in finding job, we even relate "gay" words to someone who is worthless in the society.
When we accept someone, we will love them despite of anything, who they really are and whatever they do as long as they are productive member of the society. Tolerance is just giving them way to express themselves but we condemn their way of living.
